Heisman winner connects with Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation

A friend’s battle with brain cancer prompts Jason White to get involved with local charity.

Jason White intended to start a charity for brain cancer patients. Then, he learned about Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation.

The former Oklahoma quarterback was close friends with fellow Tuttle native Brian Stewart, who battled brain cancer all of his life and became known as White’s biggest fan. Stewart died only a few months after White played his last game for the Sooners and prompted White to consider what he could do to help Oklahomans like Stewart.
That was about the same time he got a call from Nancy Thomason, founder of the Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation.
"Hey, this one’s already established,” she told him. "We’d like you to become part of this.”
White has become involved in a variety of the foundation’s activities, including the Oklahoma Heisman Swing for Hope Charity Golf Classic.
"Of course, this year, all charities are down, but we still have some pretty good numbers,” White said Monday before the tournament at Belmar Golf Club. "It’s just neat for me to see. I saw what it was ... and now to see what it is, it’s really turned into a neat deal.”
